সাধারণত সংক্রামিত এডিস এজেপ্টাই মশার কামড় থেকে জিকা ভাইরাসের সংক্রমণ ঘটে। ক্রান্তীয় অঞ্চলগুলিতে যেখানে মশার প্রকোপ খুব বেশি, সেখানে এই ধরনের সংক্রমণ বেশি হয়। সংক্রামিত এডিস মশার কামড়ের মাধ্যমে মানুষের শরীরে জিকা ভাইরাস প্রবেশ করে।
জিকার কারণে মাত্র কয়েকদিনের জন্য মৃদু জ্বর, ফুসকুড়ি, চোখে জ্বালা, এবং দেহে ব্যথা হতে পারে। যদিও বেশীরভাগ লোকই যারা জিকা ভাইরাস আক্রান্ত হয়েছে তাদের কোন লক্ষণ দেখা যায় না।
জিকার লক্ষণসমূহ:

Zika virus was first discovered in 1947 and is named after the Zika Forest in Uganda. In 1952, the first human cases of Zika were detected and since then, outbreaks of Zika have been reported in tropical Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands. Zika outbreaks have probably occurred in many locations.
