DNA molecules exhibit a characteristic absorption peak at 260 nm in the ultraviolet (UV) spectrum. This peak is primarily due to the presence of aromatic nitrogenous bases (adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine) which strongly absorb UV light at this wavelength. The measurement of absorbance at 260 nm is commonly used to quantify DNA concentration in a solution.
